Presented is an antique American coin silver pocket knife dating to around the 1840s-1860s. The handle and blade are both coin silver, and the knife is quite well made. The edge of the handle has an attractive lacelike design, and the center of each side has a raised diamond and flower design. The blade has an engraved monogram of J. H. Platt.

The blade has a maker's mark of an arm & hammer, F, and anchor, which is unidentified but pictured in John McGrew's 'Manufacturers' Marks on American Coin Silver' and attributed as possibly Albert Coles or a custom-mark for an unidentified retailer. Certainly there are many examples of folding coin silver knives by Albert Coles out there.

This piece is in good, working condition. The sides of the handle have a few very small dings and surface abrasions, but no major damages and no repairs. The raised designs are crisp and the case/handle itself has never been monogrammed. The blade is secure in the case and closes up tight.

Length when closed: 3 inches. Length when open: 5 1/8 inches.

Weight: 25.4 grams.
