Presented is a rare and distinctive antique set of Staffordshire hors d'oeuvres dishes, with original mahogany tray. This set dates to circa 1790. There are four dishes, done in blue and white Canton style. Each features a classical Chinoiserie landscape scene with buildings and an intricate border motif, as well as gilt detailing around the rims. The dishes are designs to fit together inside the wooden tray, forming an oblong or octagonal shape overall. There is an old handwritten paper label on the underside of one of the dishes, giving us the date and other information about the set. This is a very interesting and striking serving piece.
This piece is in good overall condition, especially considering age and materials. As you can see in the fifth photo, one of the dishes has been repaired. The dish also has a chip to the underside of the rim. The mahogany tray has a minor split, as seen in the ninth photo. Please view all the photos carefully and let them guide your judgment.
