Antique English Georgian Sheffield Silverplate Cobalt Glass Swing Handle Basket
Regular price
$376.00
Presented is a fine old English Sheffield silver plate and glass sugar basket, dating to around 1800-1820. This lovely Georgian piece is done in a pedestal bowl or chalice form. The body is done in an openwork or pierced panel design, with vertical fluting around the lower half. The front has a small cartouche that has never been monogrammed. The rim of the foot, rim of the bowl and the swing handle all have beaded bands of decoration. This basket has its original cobalt glass liner.
This piece is in great overall condition. There is some wear to the silver plating where you can see the underlying copper, particularly to the high points, but as a sign of age and just from an aesthetic standpoint, this little bit of contrast between the rosy copper and silver plating is considered desirable by some. There are no damages or repairs. The glass liner has no chips, cracks, or damages.
Height: 5 inches.
Diameter: 4 1/4 inches.
