Presented is an ornate German silver serving dish. This piece dates to around 1880-1910. The dish is done in a lovely classical style, very heavily decorated. The rim of the dish is beautifully chased with a rich design of flowers, fruit, and foliage, all very detailed and well done. The sides of the dish show lively genre scenes of men playing musical instruments, cherubs attending to beautiful women, surrounded by decorative scroll and floral swag designs and pierced openwork.

This dish likely had a glass liner at some point in time, and it would be easy to have a glass blower make one to fit the dish, in a bright color like cobalt blue or cranberry red that would really contrast with the silver nicely. The dish can certainly be used and displayed without a liner, as well. The legs of the dish are done in the form of classical dolphins or fish, with fanned leaf decorations where they join the body. The base continues the oceanic motif, done in the form of a rippling body of water.

This piece is in great condition. The details of the design are nice and crisp. There are no breaks, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no repairs.

This piece is hallmarked with 800 for the purity of the silver as well as two German Hanau pseudomarks.

This piece measures about 14 1/4 by 11 by 6 inches, LxWxH.

This piece weighs 1156 grams or 40.8 regular ounces.
