Presented is a great 21 piece set of Italian silver flatware, made in the early 1800's. The set is done in the Fiddle Thread pattern. Everything is completely hand done. This set was not struck with a die. All the pieces are very large and have tremendous weight. The knives have English carbon steel blades. They were probably rebladed in England many years after they were originally made in Italy. Each piece is monogrammed GT on the reverse. This engraving is undoubtedly original.
200-year-old Italian silver is much more unusual and hard-to-find than English or French. Everything in this set is huge, true dinner size.
The set includes:
2 dinner knives: 10 3/8 inches long
9 dinner forks: 7 3/4 inches long
10 spoons: 7 3/4 inches long
Each piece is hallmarked with a cross beneath a crown for the city of Nice. This mark was used in the late 1700s. Each piece is also hallmarked with a fish mark and a maker’s mark that appears to be MTT. These pieces are solid silver and not silverplated. They are guaranteed to be a minimum of 812 purity silver, but appeared to test to be 900 purity silver. The condition is excellent. There is some wear commensurate with age and light use and the knives have been rebladed, but this is minor. Everything is useable. There are no dents, no splits, and no breaks.

The weight of the forks and spoons is 1330 grams or 46.6 ounces. This does NOT include the weight of the knives because of their steel blades.
