1926 English Sterling Silver Gilt Cut Frosted Glass Dresser Perfume Bottle 1/4
Regular price
$291.00
Presented is a beautiful English sterling silver and cut glass perfume bottle, part of a larger dressing set of which we have many pieces for sale. The silver lid and collar of this bottle is by Finnigans Ltd and dates to 1926, while the glass is unsigned but of exceptional quality, likely a high end English maker like Thomas Webb or Steven & Williams. The lid features very ornate decoration in the form of machine turned radiant designs, fruit, leaf, and flower borders, and ropetwist edging. The glass is cut and frosted with intricate floral swags, egg-and-dart style leaves and flowers. The silver has a rich gold wash, which gives the bottle a very high end, luxurious look that would be a grand addition to any vanity or dressing room's décor. In addition to the threaded sterling lid, the bottle has a glass stopper, and smells like it was used for perfume or the like.
This bottle is in excellent condition, no chips, cracks, breaks, or repairs to the glass. The lid is in excellent condition, with sharp crisp detailing and only the most minor wear to the gold wash.
The interior of the lid is lined with cork but underneath that is hallmarked with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard's head for the city of London, the date letter l for 1926, and the maker's mark for Finnigans Ltd. The silver rim is stamped with the lion passant for sterling silver and the leopard's head for the city of London, as well as the Finnigans maker's mark.
We received the entire dresser set as part of a lot from the same estate, and all the pieces match and are no doubt by the same maker.
The bottle is about 4 inches tall and measures about 2 3/4 inches wide.
The silver lid alone weighs 31 grams or 1.1 regular ounces. -jm
