18th/19th C. Chinese Carved Cinnabar Green Enamel Round Bowl Peony Flowers

Presented is a great old Chinese round bowl or dish done in cinnabar on copper. This piece dates anywhere from about 1750 to the mid 1800s. The exterior is exceptionally well carved in a design of profuse peonies and leaves, very nicely detailed and well done. The interior features a striking green enamel, contrasting appealingly with the rich red cinnabar. There is no lip or ledge around the top, so this does not seem to have ever been a box with a lid. This bowl is in very good condition, particularly for its age. There are some little flakes to the cinnabar here and there, but no major losses. There are a couple of spots where the cinnabar has a glossy finish, I'm not sure if this is a restoration of some kind or the remnants of some kind of varnish. This piece measures about 5 1/2 inches in diameter and about 2 inches tall at the rim. -jm
