1700s SCANDINAVIAN SILVER LADLE with CARVED WOOD HANDLE
Regular price
$194.00
Presented is a very nice old silver ladle made in the 1700s or early 1800s. The piece has a double-spout, and nice repousse swags in the oval bowl. There is a very old pinprick monogram engraved on the underside of the bowl with the initials APB. There is a later, late 1700s or 1800s monogram on one of the spouts with the initials AMK.
The bowl is probably Scandinavian but may be colonial American, we are not sure. The carved wood handle is a later replacement.
The piece is marked on the silver portion of the handle with the initials WO or OM for the maker.
The overall condition is excellent, especially given its age! The ladle has had a repair at the 3 points of contact between the twisted wires and the silver conical handle and the ladle's bowl. There is also solder residue at the end of the silver ladle, from when the carved wood handle was replaced. There is surface wear commensurate with age and use, but this is minor. There are no breaks, no cracks, no splits, no dents, no monogram removals and no other repairs.
The ladle measures about 9 3/4 inches long.
The weight is 1.98 ounces or 56.0 grams.
