Presented is an interesting 14 karat yellow gold and ruby pin. This is a fairly modern piece. The pin is in the form of an animal, most likely a lemur, holding a small parasol. The animal could be some type of marsupial. I do not think it is a rat or a mouse because there are no whiskers. Please look at the photos and make your own determination as to what this animal is. The animal is engraved with detail and a fine fur texture. The eyes are a pair of prong set, very well matched 3 millimeter rubies of good color. This is definitely a conversation-starting piece of jewelry!
Underneath the parasol is marked 14K. Tested and guaranteed to be 14 karat gold. The construction of the clasp indicates that this piece was not made in the United States or Europe. Most likely South America or Asia, perhaps that will help with identifying the animal.
This piece is in fabulous overall condition. There are no dents, no breaks, no splits and no repairs.
The pin measures 2 1/8 inches long and weighs 9.7 grams.
