Presented is a wonderful antique cast metal Buddha head figurine. This piece dates to the 1800s, and is possibly of Thai origin, but it is hard to date this piece more specifically. The figurine is finely cast in dark metal, either cast iron or bronze. The depiction is austere and traditional, with downcast gaze, elongated earlobes, and high, flame form ushnisha at the top. This piece likely had a base originally, and there is still some solder visible around the interior of the neck, but the figurine stands on its own.

The figurine is in great condition. Some dust in the recesses, which could be cleaned up. Some spots of reddish brown, less vivid than the photos make it appear; the ones on the tip of the flame and beneath it seem more like residue than any corrosion, perhaps clay. The notch on the front of the neck may be in the making and would perhaps have been obscured by a base, but the figurine stands nicely on its own without a base today.

This piece stands about 4 7/8 inches tall.
