Presented is a great 3 piece sterling silver tea set. This set was made or retailed by Starr & Marcus and dates to 1877 or earlier. The set is done in a classical style, with a matte finish exterior and beaded decoration on the handles. The interior of the creamer and the sugar has a gold wash and a matte finish. Each piece has a monogram of H in Gothic script on one side, with Christmas 1877 on the opposite side. This is a small size tea set, suitable for use by one person, these were sometimes called bachelor sets. The teapot has a capacity of about 1 regular cup (8 fluid ounces/.24 liter)

The set consists of:
  • Teapot--4 3/8 inches tall.
  • Creamer--2 1/4 inches tall.
  • Sugar bowl--2 1/4 inches tall.
Each piece is stamped Starr & Marcus, English sterling (this indicates a silver purity of 925, then the English standard, not that these are English-made pieces) and the number 441.

This set is in great condition. There are no splits, no breaks, no dents, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The lid of the pot does shut firmly, although it is slightly open in the photos.

The total weight for the set is 350 grams or 12.3 regular ounces.
