Presented is a great pair of silver sugar nips or tongs. These tongs date to around 1760-1770 and are likely of American make, based on the form and the style of the monogram. The tongs have a simple Tudor rose design on the hinge portion, with shell form ends for grasping lumps of sugar. The tongs have a monogram of M and D, one letter on each handle.
The tongs are not stamped or hallmarked that we can find, but they have been tested with nitric acid and are guaranteed at least coin (900) purity silver.
The tongs are in great condition. There are no splits, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs.
The tongs are about 4 1/2 inches long.
The tongs weighs 29.7 grams.
