Presented is an antique, Russian niello enamel and silver box, snuff box or cigarette case made during the mid to late 19th century. This piece was made between 1896 to 1908. This is a very fine quality piece and it is a good weight for its size. The whole top and bottom are hand decorated with intricate niello enamel and hand engraved designs. The empty cartouches have never been monogrammed. The inside of the case has a deep gold wash. The case snaps securely shut.
The inside of the box has a maker's mark and the Russian Kokoshnik mark for 84/96 or .875 purity silver. This mark was used from 1896 to 1908.
This piece is in excellent overall condition for its age and the engravings are crisp.
