Presented is an interesting little English sterling silver tea caddy scoop made in 1803. The small handle is a carved piece of oxebone that is dyed green. The handle has nice graining, although this is obscured by the green dye. It is riveted securely to the smaller sterling handle part. The base is in a leaf form and is skillfully hand engraved with realistic leaf veins. The back of the base has a monogram of the initials EI.

The base is marked with the anchor symbol for Birmingham, the lion passant for sterling silver, a duty mark of King George III’s head, a date letter f for the year 1803 and a maker’s mark, possibly WP.

This little piece is in great overall condition for its age. There has been an old solder repair to the back where the leaf meets the handle, as you can see in the photos below. The repair is only really visible when the piece is turned upside down. There are no major dents, no breaks, no splits, no monogram removals and no other repairs.

The scoop measures 3 1/4 inches long.
